Mindfulness - A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World. Mak Williams & Danny Penman. |
In my 2014 goals post I said I wanted to read at least one book a month and also wanted to meditate more and become more positive. Well this book is all 3 rolled into 1 - perfect! I used to meditate everyday, do alot of yoga and found they helped with anxiety and stress but life gets in the way and since I've moved into this flat I haven't done any!
The book comes with a guided meditation CD that you follow over 8-weeks (1 meditation once a day for a whole week) and also gives you mini-challenges and explains alot about positivity and stopping your mind becoming a big dark rainstorm.
It has taken me a little time to read and get my head around the concept of Mindfulness and the science behind it. I am now about to start Week 2 of my meditation practice so I suppose I havn't read a WHOLE book this month as you read each section per week.
I love meditation, it really helps me relax and unscramble my mind. Sometimes it's hard to focus but this book and the 1st weeks meditation is all about controlling your wandering mind during meditation. Obviously finding 10mins a day to sit quietly and do the meditation can actually be really difficult, but as the meditations are super simple I actually found doing it in my head just before sleeping (without the CD after I've learn't the meditation) helps rests my mind and body allowing me to drift off quickly.
Do you enjoy meditation and do you have any recommendations on guided meditation books or CD's?

Might need to give this a read. I'm so interested in mindfulness and think it's super important to better your life and become more positive in this kind of way.
ReplyDeleteIf you're interested in similar kind of stuff, you should check out a documentary called 'Hippie Masala' about hippies from the 60s/70s who travel to India in search of spiritual enlightenment!
It might not be your cup of tea but it's interesting to see into others beliefs and cultures none the less!

I have this on my Amazon wishlist, I didn't realise it came with a CD but that sounds really good (saying that I'm not sure I even own a CD player and it's probably not safe to do it in my car, haha!) Thanks for the recommendation, looking forward to hearing more about how you get on with meditation and mindfulness, I find it all so interesting.xoxo
ReplyDeletePS - I've just started reading 365 Tao: Daily Meditations which is also really food xx
DeleteReally GOOD rather!
DeleteI started meditating and following mindfulness apps back last year due to anxiety, it's amazing. There are mindfulness workshops at the Insole Court on a Wednesday or Thursday (can't remember which, sorry) that I'm planning on checking out. I also find that pilates helps focus my mind too.
ReplyDeleteHeadspace is a great book and app if you're looking for other things to follow. x
I've never tried meditation but I love yoga so def need to embrace something like this. Looks like a good way to let your mind breathe! x
ReplyDeleteI really need this book!! xxx
ReplyDeleteI've never tried anything like this before and I hadn't thought much about it before I started finding myself more interested in things like yoga. Will have to look into this for sure!

I'm into reading goals too, as I entered the challenge of reading 30 books this year.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a Goodreads account, so I can add you or vice-versa? ^^ x
I'm really big on mildfulness, it took a long time to grasp the concept though but it really has changed my life- I rarely get stressed any more and am able to deal with stressful situations so well. It's also indirectly made me so much more appreciative of life and my surroundings
ReplyDeleteDefinitely keep it up xo
