The Importance of Organ Donation.

This post is dedicated to one of my oldest, closest and dearest friends, Maxine.

I met Max when I was 16 and we instantly hit it off. When I was 18 we spent a whole Summer together where we formed our friendship fully and from there until I moved to Cardiff we spent every weekend together with mass amounts of partying and mischief.

I knew Max had a liver problem called 'PSC' which has alot of other 'side-effects' if you will making her ill often. I'm not even going to pretend I knew what it was or what it entailed. (you can find out more info on it HERE) up until recently. I won't go into detail but basically Maxine now is on the transplant waiting list for a new liver which will save her life and also change her whole life completely - this is how I learn't about the importance of donating really is.

Max now has her own blog where you can read all about her journey with PSC and the road to getting a new liver - Click Here To Read Maxine's Blog!

The info-graphic below explains about the facts and figures of organ donation and how important it is to sign up and save lives. I don't mean to sound preachy however if you would gladly take an organ to save your life then why would you not want to give back?

Please sign up!

To sign up to be an organ donor or find out more information about organ donation just CLICK HERE.

Also Maxines boyfriend Josh is running the London Marathon for PSC Support, the liver disease is poorly understood so all money raised will go into funding for more research and support for the disease - to donate just CLICK HERE :)

Hope you are having a great day!

X

  1. I signed up on the transplant list when I was just a teenager, I've always known if I was in the opportunity where I could help someone, I would want to.

Really hope your friend gets a new liver soon and everything goes well for her. Love to you both.

  2. This is a brilliant post. Think organ donation should be an opt out thing if people feel they don't want to (and why wouldn't you really?) xxx

  5. I signed up as an organ donor after my grandfather passed away, he was cremated and burying his urn really hit home the importance of doing something important after you're gone. I wish that the UK had the same system as in Austria where instead of an opt-in system like here they have an opt-out. It would make such a difference. It takes five minutes to sign up and really can change someone's life. I wish Maxine all the best!

  6. This is an amazing post, thank you so much for sharing such an important topic. My sister had Cystic Fibrosis and needed a heart and lung transplant... it took her 3 years to find a match as there really aren't the organs around, it takes a long time to find the right ones. Unfortunately for her the operation was not successful and we lost her. It was a sad time, the hardest in my life but seeing things like this and fighting for a good cause gives me hope that other people will be successful.

Thanks again for sharing an important message xxx

  7. Such an important topic and the statistics are quite frankly shocking. I am registered on the Organ Donor list and my family and husband know my wish should anything happen.
I couldn't imagine taking an organ if I wasn't willing to give one when I no longer needed it.

I really hope your friend gets a donor soon!

  11. Great post, it's such an important thing to raise awareness over and so many people take it for granted. I signed up when I was very much younger, even at that age it was a no-brainer.

  12. I signed up to the transplant list a while ago. I am so pleased that Wales have now made it an opt out system, hopefully that will help save many lives.
I wish Max well in her recovery. x
